#18 Ontario to
Schenectady, NY
As we headed back to
the states the skies opened up and poured down heavy upon Ontario. Thankfully our route moved southbound as the
northbound lanes were crawling at a snail’s pace and backed up for miles.
We entered at Buffalo NY and got back on
I-90. Lynn showed me how to use my phone
GPS. Prior to this, I have been the
GPS. The GPS lady announced an accident
on I-90 and rerouted us through a rainy Rochester.
We had a one night
stop outside of Macedon. We couldn’t
discover why the tour director (me)took us there, but there must have been a reason. However, we caught another view of rural America. The campground, not a favorite, had narrow
roads and sites, and less than level lots. Several sites were annual site users. That must be an east coast thing.
However around the corner, we found the Burris
Park. The large, green park provided for
a multitude of soccer fields.
We left the area
through Palmyra, another small town with some lovely homes.
Little white churches appear in most of the little towns through which we travel.
I was navigating when arrived at the
intersection with large brick churches on each corner. This is all I got! Four churches, four denominations! Old, large, brick churches also show up in our travels.
Erie Canal flowed beside us as we traveled this part of New York. The rock blasted out to make the road reminded of the basalt we have in Washington.
Our next destination
The Arrowhead Marina and RV Park sat just east of Schenectady, NY on the shores
of the Mohawk River. What a beautiful park!
From our sofa we had
a beautiful view of the river and the Kiwanis Park on the other side. This
peaceful, quiet park made us want to stay longer. But we didn't. We are headed for Newfoundland.

Like so many of the parks in the East, many
sites look like annual rentals. Park
your rig for the season, then come and go as desired. The people immediately next to us and I think the motor home in the center of the picture do that.
We went to the River Road House for dinner two nights in a row. A funky local place!
Sunday on the river.
We happened to be
here on a Sunday. The various kinds of watercraft passing by our windows amazed
us. There were several groups of kayaks and even some jet skies. Shades of watching a regatta.
The Village of Scotia sits within the city of Glenville. Not sure how that works! There seems to be villages, towns and cities.
The houses often sit higher than street level. Some like the one on this corner appear massive in
size.
A few shots of Schenectady….I think.
It looks like they have an active theater program.
This stop included time to do laundry and grocery shop. We found a great laundromat and went early
Sunday morning. Derrille and I then went
into Schenectady to shop for grocery. We had to search for a supermarket. Many grocery stores look tiny and remind me of a NY city deli kind of store. Again, chain stores and gas stations all have different names back here. While shopping for sugar, C&H and U&
I are not where to be found. Did you
know they don’t have Medium Cheddar? You
get mild or sharp or very sharp. Milk
brands come with unfamiliar names too. Which is to be expected.
On to Albany, NY
