#53 New Hampshire and New York City

#53 New Hampshire and  New York City

On the way to the border we passed through a little town with railroad street signs and this gorgeous train station.

We are officially back in the States! We ended up on an unplanned route and crossed at a station not used much.  The happy customs agent had me slice my tomato and call it good. Then he stayed and talked about RVs.  He will be retiring soon and considering the RV life.

We made it to Hampton Falls, New Hampshire.  What a beautiful area.

Fall was in the air and many places were inviting you in for apples, pumpkins and apple cider.  Lots of people came for the weekend activities.

We took in a quality arts and craft show.  Very nice!

Hello New York and New Jersey.

We parked the RVs in Jersey City, NJ at the Liberty Harbor RV Park.  They have remodeled since our last visit.  There were questions about fitting in and what to do with the car.  As it turned out we had a site where we could extend to the back and have room for the car out front.

The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are a water taxi ride away. From the park she is just over the top of the building.

We decided there was enough time to go to Coney Island this afternoon.   We drove to Staten Island and took the bridge to Brooklyn and on out to the park.

The amusement rides were closed and so were some of the shops.

We walked down the boardwalk and looked at the beach.

Jay, of course, checked out the ice cream store.

We ate hot dogs at Nathan’s on the boardwalk.

They have another place a block away.  This is who sponsors the hot dog eating contest every July 4th.   We were not impressed with the hot dogs.  They are nothing compared to the beef dogs we get at the ballpark in Peoria, AZ.  But it was an experience! We also met a lovely young lady from Germany who was bringing her mom to see America.

Today we tackled the subways!   The NJ PATH subway system has a station about 7 blocks away. The car was packed and noisy. The photos show our return trip information.

Once in NY we had to transfer to the NY METRO to get to Central Park.  I did get to sit on one trip where I bumped knees with the man next to me.  I said "Excuse me."  Derrille said that shows I am a tourist.  Regular riders are used to getting bumped and no one says excuse me.

We had made reservations on line for carriage ride through Central Park.  Lynn and Jay took one carriage and we took another.  Jay and Lynn’s horse was named Oreo and pulled a red carriage.

Our carriage was purple and pulled by Billy.  Billy was a character with a strong body and a mind of his own!

Lots of people were in the park.  The last photo looks right up to Time Square.

This beautiful fountain ranks as one of the most photographed parts of the park.  Lots of people enjoy this area.

This smart car police vehicle gave me a chuckle.

I liked this purple carriage too.  Here is Charlie and this driver. Apparently, Charlie is the oldest horse in service, but also the strongest and only certain drivers can handle him.

At this stopped we fed the horses carrots.  Boy, did Charlie know what to expect here!

The lake and bridge lured people to visit the bridge and go out in rowboats.

We passed the famous Tavern on the Green which has been there since 1934 and can seat 1800 people.  It was closed in 2009 and reopen in 2014.  Several owners have operated it over the years.

We passed by the apartment where John Lennon lived and was killed.  The park has a memorial to John called Strawberry Fields.

Skyscrapers and interesting buildings border the park on all sides.

Some statues like this one of Daniel Webster have a place in the park.

After our 55-minute ride and we said goodbye to our drivers.  We were ready to eat.

Few restaurants were at this end of the park, and those we looked at served a very elite palate.  We were directed to an underground food court by the subway entrance.  Interesting!

Then we found our way back home.  It took us newbies about an hour and twenty minutes to get there. We did better on the way back.
